What is waterproofing?
Waterproofing is any protective treatment of a home to prevent water or moisture getting into it.
Licenced(Registered) Building Practitioners are the only legal body to sign off compliance of waterproofing. If they use a ‘deemed-to-satisfy’ performance solution under the NCC it must comply with AS3740 or AS4654. 2.
Can you certify waterproofing NSW?
You must have a licence before you do any residential building work in NSW, including waterproofing, valued at more than $5000 (incl GST) in labour and materials.
I’m not a Registered Building Practitioner. I have extensive experience in trade, I am a hand on person, Can I waterproof my own bathroom??
NO, In Queensland and NSW, you can only do your own waterproofing if you’re licensed to do so(i.e. the work must be done by someone with a licence).
In Victoria, waterproofing does not have to be carried out by a registered specialist, but it must conform to AS-3740.
