Great news is on the horizon for Perth as plans have been approved for the construction of the world’s tallest timber hybrid building! The South Perth C6 tower, soaring at a remarkable 189 meters, is all set to transform the city’s skyline. This innovative 50-storey marvel, envisioned by Fraser & Partners, will house approximately 200 apartments.
What makes this project stand out? Well, it’s not just its impressive height. The architects are highlighting its eco-friendly design and construction. A significant portion—more than 40 per cent—of the building will be crafted from lightweight yet durable timber. From floor panels to beams and joineries, timber will form the backbone of this architectural wonder.
But here’s the real game-changer—Fraser & Partners claim it will be carbon negative, meaning it’ll store more carbon than it releases into the atmosphere. Plus, the tower is engineered to run entirely on renewable energy using an embedded network. That’s a significant win for sustainability!
Additionally, the developers have some exciting plans for sustainable transport. They’re envisioning bike-sharing programs and an impressive fleet of 80 Teslas for an electric vehicle carshare.
This groundbreaking Grange Development project, located at 6 Charles Street, received the green light from state government planners. It’s an exciting leap forward for Perth’s architectural landscape!
Fun fact: Currently, the tallest timber building globally is the 25-storey Ascent in Wisconsin, standing at 86.6 meters. But with South Perth C6’s grand plans, it’s ready to claim the top spot.
