Silica awareness and safety

Silica Awareness Training is designed to inform workers about the potential hazards of silica dust exposure, ensuring they are equipped to recognize and handle these risks safely on-site.

This training program focuses on the dangers of respirable crystalline silica, a substance commonly found in construction materials like sand, concrete, and brick. When these materials are disturbed through tasks like cutting, sanding, or drilling, microscopic silica particles are released into the air, which can be harmful if inhaled. Workers who are aware of the risks and proper safety protocols are better able to protect themselves from respiratory diseases and long-term health issues associated with silica exposure.

After the Training you will learn to:

  1. Recognize the risks of silica dust exposure.
  2. Identify silica dust exposure sources.
  3. Understand worker and employer responsibilities.
  4. Apply the hierarchy of controls to reduce exposure.
  5. Develop action plans to eliminate exposure gaps.
