This qualification reflects the role of builders, site managers and managers of small to medium-sized building businesses who apply knowledge of structural principles, codes, standards and legal requirements to Class 1 and 10, to a maximum of two storeys and Class 2 to 9 Type C constructions, and who plan and supervise safe building and construction work, prepare and administer contracts, and who apply quality principles to building and construction projects.
The building relates to construction and Site Management is about managing the factors around construction, such as the deployment of crews with specialised skills (including builders), product compliance, deployment of contract specialised skills, weather and site location.
Occupational titles depending on packaging options selected may include:
- Builder
- Construction Supervisor
- Site Manager
- Site Supervisor
- Leading Hand
𝐘𝐞𝐬. If you have extensive experience in the construction industry, you may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This process allows your existing skills, knowledge, and work experience to be formally recognised toward a qualification.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: Submit documents such as:
• Your resume outlining industry experience.
• Workplace documents (e.g., job contracts, project reports, safety documents, designs, or plans).
• References from employers or supervisors confirming your skills and experience.
• Any certificates or training you have completed.
𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Our team will review your evidence against the competency requirements of the qualification.
𝐆𝐚𝐩 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐢𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝): If some areas are not fully covered by your experience, you may be asked to complete specific training or assessments.
𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞: Once all requirements are met, you will be awarded the relevant units of competency or full qualification.
Yes. A White Card is required for the Certificate IV in Building and Construction because some practical activities involve accessing construction sites and completing project-related units.
If you don’t have one yet, you can enrol in the White Card course at the same time as your Certificate IV.
Yes. If you have already completed equivalent units with another Registered Training Organisation (RTO), you can apply for a Credit Transfer when enrolling in the Certificate IV in Building and Construction.
You will need to provide:
- A Statement of Attainment (SOA), or
- A Statement of Results/Transcript from your previous RTO.
We will verify your documents and, if the units are equivalent, apply the appropriate Credit Transfer.
Overseas construction experience cannot be used for Credit Transfer, but you may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
Credit Transfer applies to equivalent nationally recognised units completed with an Australian RTO. For RPL, you may provide evidence such as:
- Employment or employer references
- Project documents and work samples
- Previous qualifications or certificates
- Relevant workplace documents
Our assessors will review your evidence against the required competencies. Gap training or additional assessment may be required if your experience does not fully meet Australian requirements.
