CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction IndustryNSW White Card Course
This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.
This unit meets the general construction induction training requirements of:
- Part 1.1 Definitions and Part 6.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations;
- Division 11 of Part 3 of the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 for Western Australia; and
- Division 3 of Part 5.1 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007 for Victoria.

➢ 𝐍𝐨, the White Card course cannot be completed in a virtual classroom. It must be done
face-to-face, onsite with a trainer. Online self-paced or virtual delivery is not currently available.
➢ The White Card course is a one-day program that typically takes around 6 hours to
complete.
➢ You can access your online learning resources prior to the training.
Yes, you can reschedule your White Card training if you can’t attend. Please notify us at least 24 hours before your scheduled session. Failure to do so will incur a penalty fee.
Yes, we do offer group bookings and corporate rates for White Card training. Please contact us with the number of participants and preferred dates, and we’ll provide a tailored quote and schedule. For an organisation, normally 5-8 minimum group booking requirement.
No. The White Card does not have an official expiry, but if you have not worked in construction for 2 years or more, you may need to complete the course again.
Yes, there is an age requirement. In both NSW and Victoria, students must be at least 14 years old to undertake White Card training. A parent or guardian’s consent may be required if the student is under 18.
After successfully completing the White Card training, you will receive a Statement of Attainment (SOA). Your SOA can be used as evidence of completing the training while you wait for your official White Card from SafeWork NSW.
