This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.
This unit meets the general construction induction training requirements of:
- Part 1.1 Definitions and Part 6.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations;
- Division 11 of Part 3 of the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 for Western Australia; and
- Division 3 of Part 5.1 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007 for Victoria.
- No. The White Card Victoria course must be completed through faceto-face training with an authorised trainer. It is not currently available as a fully online, self-paced, or virtual classroom course.
- The training is generally completed in one day and takes around 6 hours, including the required assessment. Online learning resources may be provided before your scheduled training session.
Yes. You can reschedule your White Card training in Victoria by notifying us at least 24 hours before your scheduled session. Late changes may incur a rescheduling fee.
Yes. We offer group and corporate White Card training in Victoria. A minimum of around 5–8 participants generally applies. Contact us for group pricing and available dates.
The White Card does not have an official expiry date in Victoria. However, if you have not worked in construction for 2 years or more, you may need to complete the training again.
Yes, there is an age requirement. In both NSW and Victoria, students must be at least 14 years old to undertake White Card training. A parent or guardian’s consent may be required if the student is under 18.
After successfully completing the White Card training, you will receive a Statement of Attainment (SOA). Your SOA can be used as evidence of completing the training while you wait for your official White Card from WorkSafe Victoria.
